Even though Halloween is still weeks away, plans are already being made by many for Christmas presents. Last year I took the handmade pledge and I will again this year.

What is the handmade pledge? It is a promise to purchase hand-made items by local artisans, which are more meaningful than store-bought gifts made in China to meet marketing hype.

How can you do this? Shop at Etsy. Go to your local craft fair and buy gifts. Look in the crafts section of Ebay. There are lots of things. Also go to BuyHandMade.com and sign the pledge. Plus, you can check out the links of others who have taken the pledge and see what they make. It is a great way to learn about different artists and get a truly special gift for someone.
