Peter's Valley Recap

This past weekend was the Peter's Valley Arts and Craft Fair at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, NJ. This was the first time EVER I participated in an arts and crafts fair ever and I can't tell you what a great time I had! I was proud to be a part of the BOAS (Business of Art Sussex) booth with three other very talented artists. They provided not only suggestions to on how to best present my work, but they gave me wonderful support and encouragement for which I am truly grateful!

Donna Fern from FernGarden Design had her lovely mosiac pots and birdhouses. Kathy Morawski was a huge hit with her "love rocks." Kathy finds rocks that naturally occur in the shape of a heart. She then sets them in special words like "love," "hope" and "om" making a unique gift! And of course Renie Garlick had her wonderful mud people masks and her hand made blank journals. Were were able to create a great, positive space highlighting each of our talents while inviting attendees in to learn about what we do. We were also able to talk to many other local artists about BOAS and what a great group it is!

The weather wasn't great with a mix of cloudy to absolute downpours taking place throughout the weekend, however, everyone I spoke with was enjoying seeing all the crafters and artisans and people were making special purchases. Of course I couldn't let the weekend go by without making at least one purchase! I bought a lovely lapel pin of a frog on a lilly pad and I spoke with Hilary Greif about having one of her great watches made for me! She takes keys from antique typewriters and makes watches and bracelets. She also uses buttons, Japanese pins and other really interesting items to make lovely jewlery. Just great!

Overall, I really enjoyed myself. I learned what it takes to assemble a booth for a show with a warm, inviting presence. How to talk to customers and explain your art and had the opportunity to meet amazing artists and see their work. What a positive experience!
