Project Announcement from the International Fiber Collaborative
The International Fiber Collaborative has just announced their project for the 2008-2009 year. The outdoor sculpture will be called "Independence" and will be a full-sized tree in April 2009 at Big Springs International Park in Huntsville, AL.
Jennifer Marsh, who heads up the Collaborative, is calling for participants to create fiber-based leaves for the project. Each Leaf should measure roughly 2 1/2" wide (at it's thickest point) x 4 1/2" from end to end. You do have the option to give it shape and dimension. In total, Marsh is looking for 30,000 leaves total and are due by March 15, 2009.
This is not the first large-scale project Marsh has taken on. In 2008, she called for panels to cover an abandoned gas station to bring attention to the use of oil on the global marketplace.
To keep up to date with the project's progress, as well as see the photos of the current installation, you can check out the International Fiber Collaborative's website.
